I set out on a quest to visit each of the Japanese railway systems compass points of stations. The journey begins in a basic hotel and with flights on Jetstar from Sydney to Osaka via Cairns.
An epic train ride from Shin Osaka to Wakkanai, then off to Abashiri, Kushiro and Nemuro visiting Japan’s most northern and eastern stations.
It’s back down from Hokkaido to Osaka to meet up with the rest of the family, then we head to Legoland and the SCMaglev and Railway Park in Nagoya, to Takayama for a birthday and to Unazuki Onsen to ride the Kurobe Gorge Scenic Railway.
I head off alone again down to Kyushu for Tabira Hiradoguchi and Sasebo, the westernmost stations, and Nishi Oyama, the southermost, all the way to Makurazaki and back to Osaka.
In this final instalment I rejoin my family in Osaka, visit the Kyoto Railway Museum, Toei Studio Park and Universal Studios Japan, before flying home to Sydney on Jetstar.
